Trelleborg Medical Solutions has opened a 10,000-square-meter manufacturing facility in Grecia, Costa Rica, marking the company’s first site in Central America. The new plant expands Trelleborg’s global supply base and gives medical device customers a direct route to nearshored, fully integrated production. This is an increasingly important factor for teams managing complex supply chains.

The facility is located in the Evolution Free Zone Industrial Park, a hub that supports export-oriented manufacturing with strong technical resources. Trelleborg’s president, Linda Muroski, said the goal is to help customers source components and assemblies from a single location, reducing freight movements and the overhead of coordinating multiple vendors. Fewer handoffs can reduce risk and support more consistent process control for companies working on life-saving medical devices.

Capabilities at the site include liquid silicone rubber molding, dipping, thermoplastic processing, and assembly work to support full device builds. The plant also includes cleanroom production areas that meet stringent standards for medical manufacturing.

Beyond production capability, location also played a strategic role in Trelleborg’s decision. Costa Rica’s workforce includes highly trained technical professionals supported by national education and skills-development programs. Muroski noted that this talent pool helps maintain consistent quality for customers in North America, Europe, and other global markets.

The new facility operates within Costa Rica’s Free Zone framework, which includes sustainability requirements. Trelleborg states that the site supports its broader plan to reach net-zero emissions by 2035. With the medical device sector facing increasing expectations around environmental performance, siting new capacity in a region with established sustainability programs offers clear operational advantages.

Expanded access to regional manufacturing can shorten lead times and improve supply chain resilience for device OEMs. Trelleborg’s Costa Rica plant is structured to meet those needs by offering a single-site path from molded component to assembled device.
