Halcium, a start-up in Salt Lake City- Utah is working on the Powerpod. It is a portable wind turbine that has been touted as ‘the most powerful, safest wind turbine ever’.
PowerPod can create three times more power than a regular wind turbine
The external shell of this 1kw portable wind turbine is fixed. The PowerPod is a small-scale wind turbine with an advanced blade system that is cheaper than solar panels. PowerPod is designed for urban spaces. The blades are entirely within the pod thus making it safe for kids, pets, and wildlife.
The advanced blade system increases the wind speed
The advanced circular blade system in the pod can increase the wind speed by 40 percent to create three times more power than a conventional wind turbine. This is a very useful feature for areas where average wind speed is low. The regular wind turbines fail to generate any electricity in such conditions but PowerPod can generate power while accelerating the wind speed.
This PowerPod is easy to install. There is no need to put the PowerPod on tall poles, which is not only expensive to mount but also eats up a lot of space. It is safe for public spaces as there are no external moving parts. It can sit on any secure surface without being noticed just like a dustbin.
