The world’s biggest solar market, China, is expanding rapidly.

In fact, the country’s output from photovoltaic plants is up 80 percent in the first quarter, marking a rise in solar power generation of 21.4 billion kilowatt-hours.

During the growth period China reportedly installed 7.21 gigawatts of solar power, according to The National Energy Administration, which increased the country’s total installed capacity to an incredible 85 gigawatts.

Of the new capacity, 89 percent of is attributed to central and eastern China.

Still, there is room for more solar power output as congested transmission infrastructure has caused some solar plants to stand idle for the time being, with China being forced to idle approximately 2.3 billion kilowatt-hours of solar power in the first quarter.
