Boston Dynamics’ humanoid robot Atlas was named Best Robot in the Best of CES™ 2026 awards by global tech media group CNET — a recognition that underscores real progress for robots moving beyond demos and toward industrial deployment.
According to an official Hyundai Motor Group press release, Atlas earned the award at the world’s largest technology showcase in Las Vegas. CNET Group, which includes outlets such as CNET, PCMag, Mashable, ZDNet, and Lifehacker, selected Atlas based on its natural, human-like movements and refined industrial design during the CES demonstrations.
Atlas was unveiled as part of Hyundai Motor Group’s broader AI robotics strategy, developed by its robotics affiliate Boston Dynamics, at CES. The robot represents a next-generation humanoid designed for flexible collaboration with human workers and for eventual deployment into real work environments — particularly manufacturing and logistics settings where repetitive or strenuous tasks are common.
Including engineers, project managers, and industry executives — this is more than a tech award. It reflects a maturing robotics landscape where innovations once confined to labs are now being positioned for practical, industrial use. Humanoid robots with the ability to navigate complex environments and assist with processes such as parts sequencing, material handling, and repetitive manual work could become important tools in smart factories and large-scale operations.
Hyundai’s press release notes that Atlas is on track for initial deployment at Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Savannah, Georgia by 2028, with plans to expand into additional tasks and sites over time. This phased approach aligns with broader trends in automation adoption, workforce augmentation, and smart manufacturing investment globally.
Boston Dynamics CEO Robert Playter described the award as a meaningful milestone, highlighting years of engineering progress toward bringing a capable humanoid robot to market and demonstrating how robots can complement human workers in industrial contexts.
For professionals tracking the evolution of robotics, automation, and workforce transformation, Atlas’s recognition at CES 2026 signals a significant step from concept to industrial reality.
