In the HLTH 2022 conference, Epic Systems, the health IT leader in the U.S. announced it entered an infrastructure agreement with Google Cloud to integrate Epic’s workloads into the cloud-based system. The new deal aims to promote the application of information technology, focusing on digital transformation.

With the Epic EHR on Google Cloud, the healthcare giant is targeting smart solutions based on advancements like AI so as to bring positive changes to the health system, improving the quality of healthcare systems.

“Having everything with Google Cloud will provide a huge opportunity for discoveries,” Kash Patel, Chief Digital Information Officer, added, “This will speed up our work and make information more accessible.”

Outdated technology and administrative procedures are the major concern of patients when going to medical facilities for examination and treatment. Epic Systems was indeed a forerunner in adopting progressive development, filling information technology deficiencies in the US health system in the 1970s.

The organization is staying ahead of the curve in digital health by focusing on the collecting and use of medical data via digital technologies, improving patient care, and reducing healthcare workloads, providing them more time to care for patients.

Epic’s agreement with Google Cloud turned out as a turning point. The EHR provider said in an announcement two years ago that it would shift its collaborative focus to other giants such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure. According to CNBC, the reason was that there were few demands from Google’s clients at that time.

In addition to reaching an agreement with Epic Systems, Google Cloud has also reached an understanding with EHR provider Meditech to incorporate its clinician-facing search tool, which is known as Care Studio, into the latter’s software for managing health information.

The digital revolution is currently gaining momentum and permeating every aspect of daily life, including the medical field. The change in the medical sector is not outside the objective of taking people as the center of attention, helping to enhance the quality of medical examinations and treatment for patients. Medicine is considered the most important science since it saves lives.
