{"id":1293,"date":"2016-08-31T14:13:47","date_gmt":"2016-08-31T14:13:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.despatch.com\/blog\/?p=1293"},"modified":"2019-04-10T19:19:45","modified_gmt":"2019-04-10T19:19:45","slug":"new-gorilla-glass-designed-specifically-smartwatches-fitness-trackers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.despatch.com\/blog\/new-gorilla-glass-designed-specifically-smartwatches-fitness-trackers\/","title":{"rendered":"New Gorilla Glass Is Designed Specifically For Smartwatches and Fitness Trackers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Corning has developed a brand new type of Gorilla Glass, designed with wearables in mind.<\/p>\n<p>Called Gorilla Glass SR+, Corning&#8217;s latest product is built to increase the scratch resistance of smartwatches, fitness trackers, and other wearables.<\/p>\n<p>Corning&#8217;s long term goal is to eventually become the standard for wearables in the same way Gorilla Glass has already become synonymous with covering tablets and smartphones.<\/p>\n<p>In order to make this goal come to fruition, the company will have to be able to prove Gorilla Glass is a better option for protecting wearables than sapphire crystal.<\/p>\n<p>While sapphire crystal is tedious and tough to make, Apple currently uses it on its high-end Apple Watch models as it is proven to be more durable than glass.<\/p>\n<p>Gorilla Glass SR+&#8217;s scratch resistance is \u201capproaching that of alternative luxury cover materials,\u201d meaning its attempting to overtake the endearing qualities of sapphire crystal.<\/p>\n<p>Corning also notes Gorilla Glass SR+ has \u201c70 percent better damage resistance against impacts and 25 percent better surface reflection\u201d than that same \u201cluxury cover material.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the day, if Corning can prove its\u00a0Gorilla Glass SR+ has\u00a0better scratch resistance than regular glass but better crack resistance than sapphire crystal, it should become a major player in the wearables industry.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Corning has developed a brand new type of Gorilla Glass, designed with wearables in mind.
