Wind energy is an inexhaustible source of energy. It reduces dependence on fossil fuels which are the origin of greenhouse gasses that cause global warming.
Home wind turbines can help lower electricity bills and provide an uninterrupted power source. But the penetration level of renewable energy from wind turbines for the homes has been very low due to their intrusive structures.
Now, to give an aesthetic touch to power generation NYC-based designer Joe Doucet has created a wind turbine wall that is also a beautiful kinetic sculpture.
The wall is made up of an array of rotary wind turbines spinning individually. Each rotary blade is connected to a 400-watt generator that generates a total peak power output of 10 kW. The electricity can be utilized in the home and excess power can be stored in a wall-mounted battery. It can also be fed back to the national grid to generate revenue.
Currently, the wall is 8 feet tall and 25 feet wide. It consists of 25 vertical turbines, but the design can be adjusted according to the user’s needs.
According to Joe Doucet, the inconspicuous wall of wind turbines can hide in plain sight and can produce over 10,000 kilowatt-hours per year, enough to power an American home.
